Do You Need an Emergency Dentist in Santa Rosa?

Not all dental issues require immediate attention, but if you’re unsure, it’s always best to call. If you’re in pain or worried about your teeth, contact us right away at (707) 579-9993.

A dental emergency is any situation that requires urgent care to relieve pain, stop bleeding, or save a tooth. Common emergencies we treat include:

  • Severe Toothache: Persistent pain could indicate an infection or another serious problem.
  • Cracked or Broken Tooth: Immediate care is needed, especially if there’s bleeding or severe damage.
  • Knocked-Out Tooth: Timing is crucial—call us right away to improve the chances of saving your tooth.
  • Partially Dislodged Tooth: If a tooth has been pushed out of position, prompt attention can help prevent further damage.
  • Soft Tissue Injuries: Deep cuts to the tongue, cheeks, or gums may require stitches to prevent complications.

If you’re unsure whether your situation is an emergency, our team is here to guide you to the right care as quickly as possible.

What to Do in a Dental Emergency

It’s natural to feel overwhelmed, but staying calm is essential. Here’s what to do while waiting for your appointment:

  1. Stay Calm: Take a deep breath and try to remain as relaxed as possible.
  2. Call Us Immediately: Contact Dr. Andrew McCormick’s office at (707) 579-9993 for advice and scheduling.
  3. Use First Aid Measures:
    • For bleeding: Rinse gently with salt water and apply clean gauze or a moist tea bag with light pressure.
    • For a knocked-out tooth: Hold it by the crown and avoid touching the root, rinse gently without scrubbing, and try to place it back in the socket. If that’s not possible, store it in milk or saliva.
    • For broken teeth or dental work: Save any pieces, rinse your mouth, and avoid chewing on the affected side. Cover sharp edges with orthodontic wax or sugar-free gum.

Never attempt to reattach dental work with superglue or other household adhesives. These can cause severe damage and even make it impossible to save your tooth.

If your emergency happens after hours or on a weekend, we’ll do our best to assist you or connect you with another trusted emergency dentist in Santa Rosa if necessary.

When to Seek Emergency Medical Care

While our office can handle most dental emergencies, some situations require immediate hospital care:

  • Uncontrollable bleeding that doesn’t stop after 10 minutes of pressure.
  • Facial or jaw trauma, especially if a fracture is suspected.
  • Difficulty breathing or swallowing due to swelling or infection.
  • Severe swelling, fever, or a spreading abscess.
  • Loss of consciousness or concussion symptoms, such as confusion or nausea.

If you’re unsure whether you need emergency dental care or a hospital visit, call our office, and we’ll help guide you.
